Program overview

The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program, launched by the Hungarian Government in 2013, offers international students a unique opportunity to study in Hungary. Its goal is to promote internationalisation and cultural diversity in higher education.

Since its launch, the program has helped thousands of students access high-quality education and professional development, offering financial support throughout their studies in Hungary.

The scholarship is based on bilateral agreements between Hungary and over 90 partner countries across five continents, attracting tens of thousands of applicants each year.

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Tuition-free education
  • Monthly stipend (for bachelor’s and master’s students):
    HUF 43,700 /month (approx. EUR 110) for living expenses, for 12 months a year
  • Accommodation contribution:
    Free dormitory placement or HUF 40,000/month (approx. EUR 100) toward rental costs
    (Note: This may not cover full rent, especially in Budapest.)
  • Medical insurance for the duration of your studies
